„Pic illustrates with incisive precision the dilemma facing those whose lives were ruptured by the Bosnian conflict -- and, by extension, any war. Helmer Christian Wagner's assured direction of a fully rounded script might have been enough to convincingly sell the drama on its own. But it is the iron-willed yet haunted perf of Mitevska, previously seen in Milo Manchevski's "Before the Rain" that lifts the story from affecting to engrossing. As good as rest of the cast is, this is Mitevska's show.
Led by the muted yet crystalline images of vet lenser Thomas Mauch, "Warchild" has the tech precision of a fine watch.“

L'ENFANT DE LA GUERRE ( "Warchild") wins Best Screenplay Award in Montreal

"Warchild", the second of a German-language Balkan trilogy by Christian Wagner (right), picked up the best Screenplay Award at the 30th Montreal World Film Festival. Written by Edin Hadzimahovic and Stefan Daehnert, "Warchild" is the tale of a Bosnian mother who discovers her long-lost daughter is still alive and well - with a family in Germany. The film, based on a true story, had already picked up the Special Jury Prize at the Bavarian Film Award. While the festival was still underway, "Warchild" was invited to screen at the Hamptons Film Festival which is held from 18th to 22nd October 2006.

Producteur et réalisateur Christian Wagner, dont le dernier long métrage sera projeté en première au 30e Festival des films du monde de Montréal et sortira à l’automne 2006 dans les salles allemandes.

"Christian Wagner, scénariste, réalisateur et producteur est cinéaste dans toute l’acception du terme. Dans son film « Warchild », l’un des éléments qui compose sa trilogie « Balkan Blues », il évoque le destin d’un enfant séparé de ses parents pendant la guerre de Bosnie, et adopté en Allemagne à leur insu. Avec une grande sensibilité, il met en scène une sorte de parabole très émouvante, celle d’une mère qui retrouve sa fille après 10 ans de séparation et qui accepte de la perdre une seconde fois. Ce film revient sur une page importante de l’histoire européenne contemporaine, si proche de nous dans le temps et pourtant si étrangère à nos yeux."
